It’s with great pleasure that Urban Containers can introduce itself with the company’s growth thus far.
Urban Containers is an accredited BEE Company, Level 2 as well as in association with the NEASA Constitution. Our Senior Management is dominated with females, which is empowering women for the future.
Urban Containers was established in 2008 by Managing Director, Kevin Nair. Kevin started his career at the age of 19 in shipping, working physically with containers. He had gained the knowledge from a Document Runner, Estimator, work shop Supervisor into a Senior Operations Manager at the Pescanova Group.
In the year 2002, he set off into managing a 3000 TEU Container Depot at the Ensign Group. He was later appointed to launch the container Sales Division, whereby he gained knowledge on the industry.
After the relocation of Managing Director Darren Lowe, Kevin then set off launching Urban Containers. In 2009, Kevin worked vigorously marketing huge companies in KZN. Later that year, Urban Containers went into a joint venture with a giant construction company to build the Zamani Housing Phase 1 in Hammersdale for the Ethekweni Municipality. In September 2009, Urban launched its repair and conversion facility in Clairwood. Our compliment of staff grew to 14 members. The workshop team with joint 40 years of experience started to draw in other container companies to use this facility to convert containers for all regions.
In 2010 containers were being planted in various major projects, to build the King Shaka Airport, Dube Port, Hotel and warehousing developments. Urban soon opened its doors for Johannesburg Market rendering services to Power Stations and Retail Sector.
We had eventually found a central point whereby the depot and office could be managed under one umbrella; this was launched in August 2010. In 2012 Urban Containers had finally reached its long term vision in purchasing its very own crane vehicle, the 2012 Toyota Hino. Based at 3012 Umgeni Business Park with 4000m of depot space and there our logistically company grew by 2 more additional trucks and more containers and conversions which increased in the Johannesburg area, making Urban Containers an official office conversion preferred supplier.
We have undertaken huge projects from Durban to the DRC, converting and supplying to the final destination. Our Logistical Department has grown substantially using sub contracts from Durban to various locations with crane and bulk loads.
In 2013/ 2014 our Logistical Department purchased another 2 horse and trailers which teamed up with our Hino Crane Truck, which gave better service deliveries in numbers. In late 2014 these trucks powered the way for Urban Containers to purchase an elite vehicle consisting of a Fassi 335 Crane accompanied by a brand new Nissan UD. This has taken Urban Containers to an elite level whereby we can do rigging and uplifting full containers.
Our container stocks have grown drastically ranging from 3m, 6m and 12m:

- Site Offices with different specs
- Park Homes
